Fluorescence Study of nano sized LaYPO4 phosphor doped with RE ions (Eu, Gd,Tb)

Abstract :

The luminescence associated with Eu contained in different host lattices has found applications related to its red light emission, which is important in the fields of displays, sensors and lasers. The present paper reports the synthesis and Photoluminescence (PL) studies of the Eu ions, co-doped in LaYPO4: Gd, Tb phosphor at different concentrations within the range from 0.5 to 2.0 mole wt. %. The samples were prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method, which is the most suitable for large-scale phosphor production. The received phosphor samples were characterized using PL, XRD, SEM, FTIR, CIE and particle size analysis techniques. When excited with 254 nm wavelengths undoped LaYPO4 exhibits good photoluminescence emission due to the charge transfer (CT) mechanism in the blue region around 469 nm. The PL emission of doped LaYPO4 phosphor shows peaks at 366, 398, 451, 469, 588, 595, 613 and 621 nm with good intensity.
