Abstract :

An assembly line is very important in the manufacturing industries. The assembly line consists of number of workstations and used to assemble various components or sub-assemblies into the final product. But sometimes problem may occur in an assembly line resulting in taking more time by subsequent sub process and thereby causing reduction in total productivity. In this paper, the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) approach has been used. This approach is based on the social behavior and interaction of swarms like bird flocks. The aim of the study is to improve the productivity and balance the assembly line. The objective is to minimize the total cycle time of assembly line for the purpose of improving line performance and productivity.
